Ice at Canoga Park

The West Valley's outdoor winter tradition — real ice, string lights, and community spirit in the heart of Canoga Park.

A West Valley Winter Tradition

Lace up under the lights on Sherman Way.

Every winter, the West Valley Visitors Bureau transforms a corner of downtown Canoga Park into a real outdoor ice rink — a place for neighbors, families, and first-time skaters to gather, glide, and celebrate the season together.

Whether you are teaching a little one to skate, meeting friends for a lap around the rink, or simply cradling a hot cocoa while the string lights come on, Ice at Canoga Park is built to be joyful, welcoming, and unmistakably ours. Weekends bring live music and local food vendors, and there is room for everyone — from wobbly beginners to confident skaters.

What to Bring & Wear

Dress for the ice

It is an outdoor rink, so a little preparation goes a long way toward a comfortable visit. Skate rental is included with admission, so all you really need is warm, comfortable clothing.

  • Gloves or mittens — required for everyone on the ice to protect hands
  • Thick, tall socks that rise above the top of the skate boot
  • Warm layers, a jacket, and long pants that move easily
  • A beanie or hat and a warm drink for time off the ice
  • Your own skates are welcome if you prefer — check-in still required
Safety & Accessibility

Skating for everyone

We want every guest to feel safe and included, whether you are a seasoned skater or stepping onto the ice for the very first time.

  • Helmets are welcome and encouraged, especially for children
  • Skate aids and support "walkers" are available to help beginners find their balance
  • Wheelchair-accessible viewing areas so friends and family can cheer from rinkside
  • Trained staff and skate marshals are on hand throughout each session
  • Rink is resurfaced between sessions to keep the ice smooth and safe

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need my own skates?
No. Ice skate rental is included with your session admission, in sizes for children and adults. If you would rather bring your own skates, you are welcome to — you will still check in for your session.
Is it real ice?
Yes — Ice at Canoga Park is a genuine outdoor ice rink, resurfaced between sessions to keep the skating surface smooth. There is nothing quite like gliding on real ice under the open sky and string lights.
What happens if it rains?
Light weather usually will not stop the fun, but for guest safety we may pause or adjust sessions during heavy rain. Check our social channels for real-time updates on skating days, and see the ticketing page for the current rain-check policy.
Are strollers allowed?
Strollers are welcome in the plaza and viewing areas around the rink, though they cannot go out onto the ice. There is rinkside space to park a stroller while your family skates, and wheelchair-accessible viewing so everyone can watch the action.
Can I book a birthday party?
Absolutely. We offer group sessions and private rink rentals that are perfect for birthdays, holiday parties, and celebrations of all kinds. Contact us to check availability and put together a package for your group.
Is there food and drink?
Yes. Expect warm winter favorites — hot cocoa, snacks, and rotating local food vendors, especially on weekends. The exact lineup changes throughout the season, so there is always something new to try.

See you on the ice.

Grab your gloves, round up your people, and make it a West Valley winter to remember at Ice at Canoga Park.
